The Thruster Components are solely used in the construction of Ion Thrusters for space flight.
They are among the harder to make components in the game. Crafted from 
Iron Ingots, 
Gold Ingots, 
Cobalt Ingots, and 
Platinum Ingots, this component is an exercise in investment and planning. The use of Platinum ingots makes the Thruster Component one of the more costly components in the game.
The Thruster Components' design resembles some form of a fan, along with a component of unknown use in the rear.
Because they are made with one of the rarest ores in the game, they are typically salvaged first when found on wrecks or pirated vessels.
Oddly enough, Thruster Components are not used in the creation of Atmospheric Thrusters on planets, nor in Hydrogen Thrusters when first leaving the planet, whereas Ion Thrusters are used only in space. This was probably a design choice by Keen Software House to build a sense of progression for the player.
