The Survival Kit is your first respawn point and Life Support recharge station; it also contains your first primitive refinery and assembler. In contrast to a Medical Room, the Survival Kit is better portable because it can also be built on small mobile grids
When starting in Survival Mode it is imperative to keep your Survival Kit powered (at minimum with a Solar Panel and Battery) in order to be able to respawn yourself and your Faction members there. The Survival Kit does not serve a function in Creative Mode Gameplay.
Usage: Healing[]
The primary function of the Survival Kit is to provide basic Life Support. Hold (F key) to interact with the front screen to slowly recharge your suit’s power and player health. If the Survival Kit is conveyored to sources of hydrogen and/or oxygen, the suit’s reservoirs will be refilled as well. It does not, however, refill hydrogen and oxygen bottles in your inventory.
Usage: Respawn Point[]
After death, your Survival Kits are available as possible respawn points on the spawn screen. The location is available for the player who constructed and owns the block, and for any other players of the faction with which the block is shared and who have used the Survival Kit before.
To control which respawn points are listed as ready/not ready, see Enable Autorespawn in the World Settings.
If your world has several Survival Kits, it's a best practice to enter a Spawn Name for each. Naming your respawn points makes it easier for you to tell them apart.
Usage: Assembler/Refinery[]
Until you have established better facilities, the Survival Kit is your basic refining and assembling block. Next to Life Support, its secondary function is as a Stone processing station:
- Use your Hand Drill to gather stone from asteroids or the ground of moons or planets.
- Fill the Survival Kit’s inventory with mined Stone. Note that it does not start processing automatically.
- Face the Survival Kit and press (K key) to open the Production tab. Then ctrl-shift-click the "Ingots" symbol once to queue up processing 1000 stone into materials.
- Resupply more mined stone when you run out.
Your Survival Kit now extracts traces of basic materials from stone. From 100 stone you get With default settings:
- 3.0 Iron Ingots,
- 0.24 Nickel ingots,
- 0.4 Silicon Wafer, and
- 1.4 Gravel.
As soon as you have some extracted materials, go to the Production tab of the Survival Kit and click the icons to assemble the components that you need to build your first blocks:
- Production > Basic Components tab: Computer, Construction Component, Display, Girder, Interior Plate, Motor, Solar Cell, Steel Plate.
If you ever lose your handheld tools, you can assemble new ones here as well:
- Production>Basic Tools tab: Grinder, Hand Drill, Welder, Datapad.
Importance for Survival Gameplay[]
Together with a battery, the Survival Kit is the first functional block that a player is given in Survival scenarios. Since the Survival Kit cannot process ores nor assemble mid-game components, its main purpose is to keep players alive while they establish themselves:
- Process Stone into materials.
- Assemble ingots into basic components.
- Build some Power production.
- Build a Basic Refinery.
- Build a Basic Assembler.
Move your first Survival Kit from your frail Drop Pod to a safer location with stable power and better protection from hostile drones. The Survival Kit can be placed on a mobile vehicle or in a stationary base.
- Grinding down a Survival Kit returns to you all components to rebuild it in the same grid-size.
- Important: The difference in components to build the large-grid variant is (minimally) 19 steel plates, so make sure you have that many extra before attempting to rebuild it on a large grid. Salvage the Drop Pod to obtain Steel Plates in a pinch.
You can build multiple Survival Kits, including on vehicles.
- In multiplayer, if cooperating players enable Shared with: Faction on their Survival Kits, faction members will auto-respawn at the closest one.
- If Auto-Respawn is off in the World Settings, faction members can choose where to respawn among their faction’s "ready" Survival Kits.
Respawn points can be used strategically fighting against other players (PvP) or against computer controlled enemies (PvE).
- During an attack, maintain at least one respawn point at a close, safe, strategic location -- even on mobile grids.
- In PvP, grind down the other players' respawn points to prevent them from respawning.
- In PvP, if you re-weld the other faction's respawn points, you take them over (Hacking).
- You can use respawn points to "teleport"/fast-travel without inventory, even if autorespawn is enabled: Manually switch off the closest auto-respawn point and set up a Timer Block to switch it back on after a minute. Then press (BACKSPACE key) to respawn at the second closest respawn point.
Construction[]
The Survival Kit can be built as small- or large-grid block. On small grid it is 3x3x3 SG blocks in size, and on on large grid 1x1x1 LG blocks. The large-grid variant has 2 large conveyor ports on the sides. The small-grid variant has three conveyor ports in total, 2 small ones on the right side (which convey, for example, stone from a drill) and 1 large port on the left side (which conveys, for example, girders, gas bottles, and solar cells).
Plan optimal placement ahead, especially when you want to integrate its ports into a small-grid vehicle:
- It's advantageous to conveyor this block to an O2 H2 Generator or to gas tanks, so that using it refills the Engineer's suit's hydrogen and oxygen reservoir as well.
- Make sure the interactive screen on its front is easily accessible for players.
- Make sure there is a safe open space (roughly 1 large grid block) to respawn in front of the block.
The Survival Kit block offers only little inventory space: 1,000 litres on small and 2,000 litres on large grid, and the inventory accepts only stone and the materials and items that it can produce itself. The mass of this block is 1,171 Kg for the large-grid version and 691 Kg for the small-grid version.
The LCD on its front is customiseable, you can have it display a message to your faction members (text and images), or hydrogen and power levels (script), or the faction logo (script), etc.
