Pertam

Planet Pertam seen from orbit

Pertam is the eighth planet discovered in the Space Engineers’ star system. It was added with update 1.197, the Wasteland Update. This planet is a moderately hard starting planet, unless you start in the safety of the Pertam Orbiter.

In Space you recognise this reddish planet because it has no moons, similar to its icy sibling Triton.

It has a barely life supporting atmosphere and unpleasant weather. The planet is renowned for its illegal Scrap Races.

Pertam's terrain features many mountains, a large canyon system spanning the equator of the planet, and also flatter desert plains. A rover is ideal for traversing the wide plains on this planet, even though the extremer parts of Pertam's terrain will give some challenges to rovers.

Pertam’s higher gravity makes it a challenge to launch or land basic atmospheric or hydrogen-based ship. Due to the lack of Ice Lakes, Hydrogen-based ships are not ideal for this planet. But ice isn't entirely unavailable, with rare deposits found underneath the few oasis-like spots and in wet-sand-colored ice patches.

Atmosphere[]

Considering the thin atmosphere, be careful when attempting to fly at high altitudes in an atmospheric ship.

The temperature varies from Cold to Inferno, and from Hot to Inferno during sandstorms. The planet is infamous for its dangerous electric lightning storms.

Oxygen levels in the atmosphere are sufficient for survival as long as you stay close to the planet's surface. Oxygen is denser in the planet’s lower canyons and crevices, making the floors of canyons ideal for starter bases while ice is too scarce for oxygen production.

For power generation, Solar Panels are good for lower elevations and Wind Turbines are a good choice for higher elevations.
