The Medical Room is a block in Space Engineers that recharges the Space Engineer's Life Support in Survival Mode. It also serves as respawn point and suit customisation station. For blocks with similar functions, see also Survival Kit and Cryo Chamber.
The Medical Room needs to be powered to work. It has two configurable LCD Surfaces on the inner side at the health recharging station.
Usage: Healing[]
Players in Survival Mode use the Medical Room as Life Support to recharge both suit energy and health.
Face the display panel on the inner terminal of the block and hold the USE key (F key) to recharge.
- If the Medical Room is conveyored to sources of gas such as tanks, interacting with this terminal also refills your suit oxygen and hydrogen reservoirs. It does not, however, refill gas bottles carried in your inventory.
- If the block is not conveyored to filled tanks, the Medical Room only recharges power and health.
Usage: Respawn Point[]
After death, your Medical Rooms are available as possible respawn points on the spawn screen. The location is available for the player who constructed and owns the block, and for any other players of the faction with which the block is shared and who have used the Medical Room before.
To control which respawn points are listed as ready/not ready, see Enable Autorespawn in the World Settings.
If your world has several Medical Rooms/Survival Kits/Cryo Chambers, it's a best practice to enter a Spawn Name for each. Naming your respawn points makes it easier for you to tell them apart.
Usage: Space Suit Skin Customization[]
The Medical Room is commonly used in the spawn room of Multiplayer Scenarios to allow participants to select team colours. The suit customisation functionality works in Survival Mode as well as Creative Mode (see trivia below).
- Go to the outside-facing portion of the medical room that looks like a booth, to the right of the recharge terminal.
- Face the booth and press (F key) to enter.
- On the Character Screen, change your suit color and select a skin for your space suits.
Best Practices[]
It is advisable to have a Medical Room near areas where players need to recharge quickly. In a combat situation, Medical Rooms can become a vital target for intruders, both as a relatively expensive piece of equipment to loot, and to starve a ship or station of its reinforcements, and/or deny the enemy the ability to heal themselves or recharge energy.
Energy intensive activities, such as mining with a Hand Drill, constructing, and salvaging by Welder and Grinder in space, drains suit power quickly. Visit the Medical Room regularly to recharge your suit reservoirs, with or without health restoration.
Construction[]
The Medical Room exists for large grid only (For a small grid alternative see Survival Kit). It is 1x2x2 blocks large (height x width x depth) and has two conveyor ports in one corner, one on the top and one on the bottom. Visually, there is 1 block of empty space; you cannot place any other blocks in this area because this is where respawning characters will stand. When placing the block,
- choose a safe room with clear exits because this will be your respawn point.
- optimally, connect the ports to a conveyor system that has access to oxygen and hydrogen tanks.
- optionally, keep the suit customisation booth accessible if you intend to use it.
Access to the suit customisation and suit refill functionalities is not required for its main functionality as a respawn point.

Trivia: Wolf and Spider Suits[]
In Creative Mode, players can use the Medical Room to turn their Engineer into various spiders or a wolf skin. The disguised engineer will still be attacked by wolf/spider NPCs though (if they are enabled). The disguised engineer cannot use the jetpack, first-person view, strafe, close their helmet, use weapons nor tools; they can interact with blocks, can stand in cockpits, push buttons, use their flashlight and suit antenna, and place blocks though. They cannot move in space, but they don't die there either. If you switch the game back to Survival Mode, you turn back into an engineer.
