Iron Ore is a naturally occurring ore found in shallow veins on asteroids, moons, and planets. It has an easily visible rusty reddish appearance and is very common.
Usage[]
Iron Ingots are the base ingredients for all core building blocks and components. Throughout all stages of gameplay, the Space Engineer can never have enough Iron. Thankfully, it is the most common metal in Space Engineers, even more common than Silicon Ore.
Yield[]
Iron Ore can be processed in a Basic Refinery, or Refinery to produce Iron Ingots at a 70% weight ratio. Which is to say 10 kg of ore will produce 7 kg of ingots. In a Basic Refinery, iron ore has a weight ratio of 49% and a volume ratio of 16.8%. Iron is also one of the easiest ores to smelt in Space Engineers, one refinery can produce 52,416 kg of ingots in one hour, without Yield or Speed Modules, at "realistic" refinery speed. 1 Kg of Iron Ingot takes up 0.13 L of volume.
Trivia[]
In reality, Iron is one of the hardest metals to smelt, requiring a very high temperature to make quality steel. After a brief test patch making Iron smelting more realistic and less fun, this issue was addressed by Keen Software House, and it was decided to sacrifice realism for entertainment/speed.
