The Flare Gun is a handheld piece of equipment that is used for signaling your location to other players, igniting explosives, or for illuminating mining tunnels or asteroid caves for a few seconds. It requires Flare Clips as ammo, of which it can load four.
Tip: Unintuitively, this item is functionally a Tool that looks like a Weapon, but it and its ammo are listed in the Assembler in the Equipment category.
Usage[]
To equip the Flare Gun:
- Make sure you have Flare Clips in your inventory.
- Press (G key) to open the Toolbar config menu.
- Go to the Character Weapons category and drag the Flare Gun icon to your toolbar.
- Press (ESCAPE key) to close the window.
- Press the number key of its toolbar slot to wield the Flare Gun.
The Flare Gun loads the clip and is ready to shoot four flares. - Optionally, hold RMB to aim.
- LMB-click to shoot.
Trivia[]
The hand-held Flare Gun functions similar to a pistol, but it shoots magnesium projectiles that can fly in a high arc and light the darkness for 5-10 sec (?) and then despawn.
The shot projectile can push light non-static blocks and it bounces off walls and ceilings. The projectile is physical and can destroy weak or unwelded blocks on impact. When aimed at armed warheads, armed Explosive Barrels, or explosives, they can ignite. Floating explosive blocks that are armed on a countdown can be pushed and explode at the end of their countdown.
On the other hand, the shots cannot be aimed very precisely, clip capacity is low, and reload time is slow.
Currently, the flare projectile pushes player characters and causes an insta-kill.
