Datapads are craftable items used to store free-form text and GPS coordinates in game. Players can craft their own datapads and use them as in-game items to keep notes, messages, and coordinates. You can store 1000 letters worth of info in a datapad. You craft datapads cheaply out of Iron, Silicon, and Gravel on any Assembler's Tools tab.
Datapads and Economy[]
Economy Datapads are purchasable items that give you coordinates to find NPC-owned Trading Outposts. When you enable Economy in the World Settings, one random Economy Datapad is always found among the starter equipment in the seat of the Drop Pod and Respawn Space Pod. When you open (right-click) an Economy Datapad, it will show a generated in-game message from a trader and coordinates of an NPC Trading Outpost. This is an incentive to visit the NPC station and trade there.
Usage[]
After you have obtained a Datapad, put it into your inventory and right-click it to read or edit it.
To edit it, optionally enter a Datapad name in the first field, and then type your text in the larger field. The text can be a mixture of normal text and can contain one or more pasted GPS coordinates.
Storing GPS Coordinates[]
To add GPS coordinates to the message:
- Go to your GPS screen.
- Click the button to copy the GPS to your clipboard, and close the window.
- In your inventory, right-click the datapad to open it, and paste (CTRL+V key) the GPS coordinates into the text.
Repeat this if you want to store several coordinates in one Datapad, each GPS coordinate on one line by itself.
Receiving GPS Coordinates[]
If you as the recipient of a datapad want to see where the mentioned GPS coordinates are in your world:
- Right-click the datapad in your inventory.
- Click the Create GPS Marker button.
The GPS will be temporarily added in grey to your GPS list. - Go to your GPS screen, scroll to the new, gray GPS name, select it and check the box that say Show On HUD.
This stores the coordinate permanently, even if you lose the Datapad. If you don't Show On HUD immediately, the coordinate disappears from your list again.
