Blocks

Blocks are the objects that the Engineer places and attaches to other blocks to build "grids" such as Small Ships, Large Ships, or Stations. Grids are made of blocks, blocks are made of components, components are made of materials, materials are made of ores.

The dimensions of a single 1x1x1 block are 0.5 meters to an edge for small-grid blocks, and 2.5 meters to an edge for large-grid blocks, thus small-grid blocks are about 1/125th (0.8%) the volume of large-grid blocks. However, this does not mean the mass and costs of large-grid blocks are reduced to 0.8%.

Block Construction[]

In Survival Mode, you must weld blocks which uses up Components. In Creative Mode you place blocks for free.

How to weld blocks:

1. Select a Block from the toolbar and place its frame in the desired location in the world.
2. Approach it with a welder in hand. A tooltip with a percentage based progress bar will appear on the right with a list of the next needed components and their quantity.
3. Make sure you have these Components in your inventory.
4. Hold left-mouse button (LMB) to weld.

The block will be complete and functional once all the required materials are placed and the progress bar meets the red indicator bar. If the block is functional, then a blue indicator bar will show when the player receives ownership. A block may then be completed to 100% to increase durability against damage; mostly this means mounting additional Steel Plates.

As the block is being welded, it will go through 3-5 stages of visual change, starting with a basic framework and then going through various stages of completion.
