The Button Panel is a functional block in Space Engineers. It acts as a customizable command console, allowing players to assign blocks' Control Panel actions to in-game buttons. For example, you can assign the "Hangar Door-->Open" action to a button panel. The Sci-Fi Four-Button Panel and Sci-Fi One-Button Terminal are DLC variants.

Construction[]
The large grid version is a 1x1x1 block, but the panel only takes up the lower half of one side of that space as an obstacle. The large-grid panel has four configurable buttons and a built-in Control Panel. The small grid version is 1x1x1 small grid blocks in size, but takes up only half that space. It has only a single configurable button and no built-in control panel.
Set up one action per button[]
To set up buttons to trigger block actions:
- Face any button on the block until you see a highlight.
- Press K-key (LB+RB+view [2 papers] for Xbox)
You'll see a list of available blocks on that grid. - (Optional) Filter the list by typing a block name in the searchbar.
- RMB-click (A for Xbox) a block and drag it to a Tool Bar slot. Then select a block action from the menu.
For large grid only: Repeat this step to assign actions to all four buttons.
Set up multiple actions per button[]
What if you want a button to trigger more than one action? For example, one button push to switch on or off several lights; or to close multiple doors and then pressurize the room; or open an Airtight Hangar Door that is made up of several segments? In this case, you have two options:
If the blocks are of the same type:
- Group the blocks in the control panel.
- Then in the Button Panel's control panel, select the Groups tab.
- RMB-drag (RB+A for Xbox) the group to the slot, and select desired group action.
If the blocks are of different types:
- Build a Timer Block (see there).
- Set up the multiple actions in the Timer Block.
- In the Button Panel, RMB-drag (A for xbox) the Timer block to the slot, and select the Timer Start action.
Usage[]
After a button is set up, a player can push it in-world to trigger the action.
- Hover the crosshairs over a button to read the action in its tooltip.
- Face the button until you see a highlight.
- Then either press (F key) or LMB-click the button with an empty hand ((0 key)). Press “X” for Xbox.
Button access can be shared with anyone, or the buttons can be restricted to respond only to the block's owner, or the owner's faction.
